So I have finally found a time to sit down and look back on the 2 months of traveling through Europe. As some of you may know I left Nz and jetted off to explore Europe for 2 months.
I met up with my American friend whom il be traveling with in Munich. Munich, Oktoberfest was our first stop! We stayed with my German friend Phil whom I met 2 years ago in Fiji. So we stayed with Phil for 3 days. He was our own personal tour guide and showed us around Munich. We went into the many various biergartens and drank beer of course! And yes we went to the famous Oktoberfest. 3 liters of beer later and I don’t remember much from that day. Poor Phil had 8 liters and was fucked off his face but managed to find his way back home!
After Munich we headed over to Prague (note we did not plan a single thing on this trip- we have a eurail pass so just decided where we will go next on the day or plan maybe 2 days ahead #yolo). So we trained from Munich to prague. On the train we met tom, who was an Australian guy from Perth. He’s been backpacking through Europe for 2 months and have about 1 month left. We got a long and talked so much about travels and exchanged travel stories and tips. Once we arrived in Prague the 3 of us decided to all stay together. We chose to stay at hostle Tyne Prague. It was literally the best location ever! The hostel was about a 1min walk to the clock tower which is like the city centre of Prague. In Prague we went in various walks, did the free seandemans walking tour (which I highly recommend on doing in every major cities in Europe). We also went on the famous clock tower pub crawl. And yes I did not remember a thing from that night after all the free shots and alcohol we got! I woke up the next morning with a pub crawl shirt haha score!
We did drink every night when we were in Prague. We picked up a few others on our walking tour. They were two Canadian girls so we hung out with them and drank and partied with them while we were in Prague. It was a good time and this city is probably one of my favourites!
Next we moved on to Budapest. We decided to go there 2 hours before the train left haha. Yeah we are winging it lol! So we arrived in Budapest and stayed at wombats hostel there. For those of you do not know, wombats is one of the many chained party hostels throughout Europe. It was very clean and the atmosphere there was pretty good.
We met up with zac our Canadian friend that we met in Prague. We went on the walking tour that was offered to us by wombats. Then at night went to a ruin bar called szimpla which is world no. 3 best bar! It was pretty awesome in there! Inside was so big that you can literally do your own mini bar crawl in there! They literally had over 7 bars in there I think! Pretty awesome place! So we spent 3 days in Budapest, but to be honest I think two days there is more than enough!
After Budapest we decided to yolo it and check out Bratislava. It was my birthday that day! I didn’t even know that city existed until like that day we went there haha. It was a pretty small city which was cool! We ran into our first problem due to not ‘booking’ stuff in advance ie. hostels. We arrived at this hostel and they were fully booked. So we had to walk around searching for another place to stay. Luckily there was one close by and they fortunately had 1 double bed left! Pheewww! So we stayed there for 1 night. The next morning we went for a little adventure around Bratislava. Did some shopping and got back to the hostel picked up our backpack and headed off to the train station. Our next destination was Vienna.
So in Vienna we stayed at another wombats hostel. Vienna is soo beautiful! A must see city if u visit Europe! We were going to bypass it and head somewhere else but I’m so fucken glad we came! The nightlife here wasn’t all that great. I spent my 22nd birthday here. Got soo wasted at the wombats bar and met a bunching German people that were on a school trip there. We met two German girls katharina and beyza who we hung out with in Vienna. The next day we were hungover as hell and didn’t wake up in time for our walking tour! So my travel buddy and I did our own walking tour which was actually worked out pretty well! After that we started drinking again and decided to go out for dinner at the famous market in Vienna. After dinner we went to shisha bar and ordered shisha and a few drinks. Then we headed back to the hostel and called it a night. Vienna was a good time and I’m glad we went! There’s so much to see there! We spent 2 nights and 3 days in Vienna. Our next stop was Salzburg.
So when we arrived in Salzburg we ran into tom. Yes tom remember him from Prague. We literally walked into the hostel bar and there he was. It was soo buzzy but pretty cool at the same time! Tom, Geneva and these 2 others all went out to an Italian restaurant and had dinner and some wine.
The weather was so shit was te next day we only went out for a bit and explored Salzburg as it was so cold and miserable! We only stayed for 1 night so didn’t really get to see a lot of the city! Only just the main attractions which included a magnificent beautifully set out graveyard! Weird I know haha.
The next day we headed on over Milan. Stayed 1 night in Milan and met up with tom again! Had dinner and a lot of wine followed by drunken gelato runs. The next morning we went to the famous cathedral in Milan! It was so beautiful on the outside! Went on our own walking tour and just got lost in Milan really. Later than night we decided to go over to Florence! Which was only 3 hours by train.
In Florence we stayed at youth hostel which was a party hostel. So as soon as we arrived there were already free sangrias waiting for us! Score! Haha.
One too many sangrias later we decided to join in and go on a pub crawl that night. We got more shots and drinks at the first place and it was all of a blur for me from then. Apparently I made it out to this club called twenty one that I had no recollection off. Luckily the Italian friend that I was with walked me home! It was a great night… I think lol. Florence was a pretty cool city! The next day we went on a walking tour but we were away too hung for this so decided to ditch after half way in the tour and went shopping in the markets instead haha. Leather markets in Florence is a must! You’ll probably grab yourself a nice leather jacket or bag from that market! Be sure to bargain with them though!
It was off to Pisa after Florence. Me my travel buddy and this American girl called Kendra that we met headed out to Pisa. It took 55mins to get there by train. We walked and saw the leaning tower of Pisa! Took some pretty sweet photos which included some pretty cool jumping photos. We spent maybe 2 hrs in Pisa. And that’s all you need! There’s nothing else really to do there except for the leaning tower ha! So after. We had lunch and Kendra headed off to Lucca a small town like 45mins away from Pisa. Geneva and I headed out to nice. Nice was more of like a layer over and a rest place before we made the big trip over to Barcelona.
So maybe 9hrs later we arrived in barcelona. Our hostel was called Kabul and it’s one of the most well known party hostle there! First night we had a couple of beers and went to bed early as we were pretty beat from traveling. We got up early the next day and went on a sandemans free walking tour! This was a cool one as well, I learnt so much about Barcelona. (Fun fact did u know that the Eiffel Tower was intended to be built in Barcelona but someone important back in that time said no he didn’t like the design and told them to go build it somewhere else). Anyway we saw a lot if things, climbed this massive hill to a view point where you can practically see the whole Barcelona city! Then at night falls we ran into 3 Canadian girls which were our roomies. They had a bottle of vodka, an it started with 1 shot. One shot led to another and we were all pretty smashed by the time we went downstairs to play more drinking games! How I made it out to the beach side club that night I will not understand. I got home and apparently we went for a swim and collected a lot of sand! I woke up and my whole bed was covered in sand! Hmmm yeah Barcelona. The morning after felt like hell, we walked around Barcelona and I felt like death! All I wanted was jut to lie in bed all day! After about the whole day of walking we arrived back at the hostel and I fell straight on my bed. And I don’t think I got up til the next day haha.
After Barcelona i headed off to benidorm where I was meeting up with my friends from nz. Court and krust are in the nz taekwondo team and they had there world tkd tournament in Spain. So I wanted to go and watch them! I spent 3 nights there with court staying in a nice hotel an having a fucken nice bed to sleep on! It felt like heaven! And we ate buffet breakfasts and dinners every single day. After about 3 days with them I said goodbye to my friends and made my way over to lisbon Where I was meeting up with Geneva again.
We ran into each other at the train station and made our to our hostel together. We stayed at this place called the g-spot! It was probably my favourite hostel! They had queen sized bunk bed! Come on it was epic! Also free pancake breaky in the morning! It doesn’t get any better than that really!
That night we went on a pub crawl of course. We went to this major street were they had over 200 bars! An also the best part! 1 euro shots! I got so drunk that I decide to order like 3 rounds of 10 tequila shots and just started handing them out to everyone! Stupid ty! Haha. The next day I woke up with a really sore head and a fancy door knob. Yes a door knob. Don’t ask me lastnight was a blur too haha. We repeated thus same pub crawl the next night and this time I woke up with a new tattoo on my wrist. Yeah shit got pretty crazy that night! Well enough about that let’s just say Lisbon was a fucking good time and everybody should go there and stay at the g-spot and try find my door knob that I left there. It has my name signed on it lol.
After Lisbon it was off to bordeaux!
We spent 1 night in Bordeaux with Geneva’s aunty and uncle. Had a really nice home cooked meal . The next day we explored Bordeaux early in the morning and caught our train to Paris in the afternoon!
In Paris we stayed with Geneva’s cousin! She had an apartment in Paris. We saved a lot of money staying with her! Paris was probably the most expensive city so far on the trip. And to be honest I wasn’t a big fan of Paris at all. The city was dirty and it smelt ! A lot of homeless and creepy and dodgy people everywhere. But one of the highlights in Paris for me was seeing the Eiffel Tower and going up right to the top of it! Make sure you go up the Eiffel Tower if you go to paris! It was only 13 euros and it was more than worth it!
Enough about Paris lol. It was time to get out of franc and head out to Bruges. Bruges was one of my favourite places too! The city wasn’t too big so you can walk everywhere! We stayed at at Christopher’s hostel which is another party chain hostel. Bruges was so so beautiful! The buildings there were so mind blowing and they had a lot of cute side streets that you could walk down!
They didn’t offer a walking tour here so we pretty much did our own walking tour. It was nice to just chill out over a couple of beers and not be completely smashed! We were in Bruges for 1 night and headed to den Haag to stay at my uncles and aunts place for 3 nights. They had the most amazing house! It was so fucken big that it has an elevator in it!
We took 2 day trips to Amsterdam while we were in de haag! It was only 1hr away by train. In Amsterdam we did the boat canal cruise which is a must! Lined up for the Anne frank house did the free waking tour! Walked around the re light district! Inhaled a lot of weed! Went inside a coffee shop! Ate a lot of krokets haha. Amsterdam was a blast! I’ll definitely be back there to party it up!
After Amsterdam it was off to Brussels. Met up with Andrew one of my fellow Disney lifeguards. We got pretty drunk after 3pints of beers and a bottle of wine each lol. The next morning we went on a walking tour. Honestly there actually not much to do in Brussels at all. If you have a limited of time on ur euro trip I recommend to Go to Bruges instead of Brussels. The main square was probably the best part of brussels.
After Brussels it was off on our 8hr bus ride to london. Not our eurail train pass doesn’t work in the uk!
We spent 2 nights in london. Did the free waking tour and saw the major attraction a that incl the Big Ben, London eye, bucking ham palace. The next day we met up with eddy my English mate from Disney. He spent the whole day showing us around ,we walked around Hyde park soho, oxford street etc! At night we did our own little pub crawl drinking at 3 different places. We had to leave before midnight as that’s when the tube will stop running and we won’t have any other way of getting back to the hostel.
The next day geneva and I spent the whole morning walking around Camden markets! It was so fucken cool there! My favourite part of london! You can honestly spend the whole day there! A must if you visit London!
We caught our bus later that afternoon to Sheffield where we will be staying with my two English mates from Disney! Sarah aka Brannners and Emily aka turner! Turner and her friend Jess picked us up from the bus station and we drove to their student house. They had a house where they had 8 roomates that are all girls. The purpose of stoping over in Sheffield was to get super fuck up with my English poms. And god we got super smashed! I didn’t even realized that I actually Made it out and went to the bars/clubs. Let’s just say it was a good night!? The next day we spent pretty much all day in bed. We didn’t leave the house until like 5pm to go get dinner. We ate at this restaurant and ordered a couple of drinks. After we back to the house and just chilled and watch tv. Our bus was at 2am to edinburg.
6 hours later we arrived in Edinburg and met up with our friend dean whom we met in barcelona. He’s an Aussie that’s living And working in the uk. We stayed with him for 3 nights. Went on the walking tour explored Edinburg. It was so cold there so the next day I was sick in bed all day. Geneva and dean went out and checked out the Edinburg castle . They said it was cool but not worth the money. I think it was 16pounds that’s like $32 nzd . Fuck that haha. The next day we climbed up this really really steep hill and honestly saw the whole of Edinburg from there! It was well worth the hike!
After Edinburg Geneva and I parted ! She was off to explore Scandinavia and I was off to lille.
I was on a 13 hr bus to lille. Made it there! Spent 1 night there catching up with a friend. Then the next day I took a train to cologne. My German friend Arthur used to live in nz so I went over to say hi and have catch up with him. I was staying at his friends apartment. David was a nice guy he picked me up from the train station and took me out to dinner. We drank at his apartment. The next day we met up with Arthur and my German Katerina (remember her from austria). Well they all took me around cologne. We climbed up to the top of he famous duomo and then shopped around for a bit. Had a kebab for dinner did u know that kebabs was invented in cologne??! Yeah who would of thought! After eating we went into a shot bar that had over 200 different shots. We tried 6shots each and decided to move on the next place! I ordered some mojitos there. After we said goodbye to Katerina as she had to take a 3 hr train home ! David and I went back to the house and slept!
The nxt day I had a train to Milan but it got cancelled so I ended up in interlaken! Interlaken was beautiful! It was snowing there so it was bloody freezing! I walked around the city for abit took some pretty sick photos and got on the next train to Florence . I spent 2 nights in Florence. I was there so I could take a day trip out to cinque Terre. It’s about 2 hrs from Florence. This is a fucken must if you come to italy honestly! My absolute fav place of this trip! The hike path was closed but I met an Italian local that was super friendly and took me on a hike around the back root! It was one of the toughest hike I’ve ever on but the view from the top was magnificent ! I’ll do the hike again in a heart beat! I saw 3 out of the 5 towns that day because there was no sunlight left! If u do go I recommend for u to stay there for at least 1 night the villages are absolutely stunning! You won’t be dissapointed I promise!
So after Florence I made my way to my last city! Rome! Spent 3 nights in rome! Did the whole colosseum and Vatican thing! Saw the sixtine chapel ate a lot of pizzas! I pretty much did Rome in 2 full days and did everything on foot! I stayed at Romans hostel which was right next to Rome termini and pretty centrally located to everything!
Can’t believe it’s the end of my trip! 2 months flew by! I was sad to leave but was excited to get out of the cold! So I am now currently in Thailand soaking up the sun!
